As a fourth year design student at COFA I have been coming across some great projects for our final studio course. My friend Dan Flanagan is doing a particularly cool satirical experiment looking at the negative effects of consumerism, mass culture and advertising on society. Dan explains:
In an age where people are defined by their ability to shop, one individual has stepped forward as a representative of our newfound sameness—’the consumer’. We seem to hear about this guy/gal in the news every day… but who is this mystery individual and where did he/she come from?
Well finally the advertising industry has come together to take collective ownership as they make it official and market their latest product—The Consumer™.
Find out all about it at
www.use-more.com.
Over the coming weeks he will be unleashing his campaign on Sydney streets using some of the devious and dastardly techniques employed by advertisers. Read all about these antics as they happen
here.
Dan apologises in advance to anyone who falls victim to one of his pranks
