I could of created a long descriptive but informative paragraph explaining why this particular designer stimulated my outlook or line of thought which is better known and associated with something that directly relates to graphic design, but instead I’ve summarised what could have been into two dot points as noted below. Enjoy.
1. Innovation: “Creating something brilliant in such a way that it takes twice as long and costs three times as much as the old fashioned way of doing the same thing”.
2. Julien Vallee: A Graphic designer whom employs the use of innovation.
Nick Meek, is a photographer and by this, I mean he works for Kodak (or at least he should). His work deliberates a tasteful perfection which in my mind compliments that tacky bi-line (yet another Kodak moment) to a point of stronger accomplishment. His photos aren’t just encapsulating short periods of time, better an extensive period which summarizes more than a just moment.
So too recap in plain English… His photos are good and make me want to become a photographer, you should check his shit out.
Need I say more? Probably not. This caught my eye recently with the tag line “Bad artists copy, good artist steal.” It’s cheeky, but kinda nice. “Doing Only Crooked Shit” or “DOCS” for short, in my opinion lacks the crooked bit on the better part of their website, but what you don’t see there, they make up for on their blog, so if you’re feeling downtown – give that a seeing! Yeah boi!
Teddy-bear heaven is a happy solution to many an anxious parent… and while we young adoring rug-rats despise the very idea, a reassuring invention will soften the decision at hand so one can to do the right thing.
“Mummy is probably right, the strange insects which seem to have inhabited Sophia’s left ear probably mean its time to let her go”…
And whilst teddy-bear heaven remains an overstated embellishment, its interesting to note that in some cases this elaboration is perhaps not all fiction, if there were for example a heaven for my Dell Dimension personal computer (powering up on nothing less than Windows 95 with a Pentium processor!) I would consider it within an art piece made by sandy smith. Its like a retirement village for computers! simply marvelous.
For most a skip is a large trash receptacle designed to be hoisted and emptied into a truck. However for Oliver Bishop young, a skip is a large trash receptacle designed to be used for ping pong, a sunday swim or maybe even a sneaky skate.
I love how the simplicity and change of context has made this idea so strong. it also provides insight into a way of thinking which could and will inspire other sustainable conversations.
Actually Mario Hugo does more than that. He turns ink to gold and paper into a commodity so precious, you feel guilty for looking at it. He’s been inspiring me for years to be a better sketcher, squigglier, maker and designer!!
He’s quite the creative crayon! (you know that color, you never used because it wasn’t quite red. But then you did and it was awesome). (insert cliche*)
These days most designers find themselves enwrapped in using Helvetica, Baskerville and Courier, when it comes to designing your own, the closest many come is ones Cursive! Hence, it’s always exciting when you come across something new and useable… Even if it’s only to inspire you in creating your very own.
Hand Made Font is a duo which I found recently and have definitely, I feel pushed the boundaries as to what a font should be. Check out their website for further original niceties or tell me someone you know.
Roughly two weeks ago, I was in enjoying a couple of afternoon beverages at my local publican with an old friend and he was telling me about this myth he had heard. Which was… if you write your address on the back of a beer-mat, and put it in the mailbox, Australia post will not only deliver your preciously stained coaster, but they will bill the establishment whom it belonged too!!
Ridiculous right? Admittedly he wasn’t so sure himself so we decided to test it out… and after basking in a secret chuckle over the obscurity of placing a beer mat with an address and the message I love balls into a mailbox, its safe to say I had completely forgotten of our investigation.
Now two weeks later, I couldn’t believe what awaited me in the mail!! I had received my coaster and with it, an apology from Australia post for its delayed arrival… Apparently it was found loose in a “street-posting box”.
Has anyone heard of something like this? Perhaps we could put it to the test!
Every now and again i come across great images which have been taken just that little bit further to represent an idea! Whether it be simple or complicated.. How many of you, have found photos (or ideas within them) which inspire you in a way different to before..
Here’s one I found recently which made me think wow! These photos were made/taken by Khristian Mendoza and hes only 21 studying Communication Design in Melb!
