In my attempt to raise awareness of great music, I would like to introduce something quite different from my previous post. This song, ‘Dusty’ is taken from the album ‘Handwriting’ (2003) by Khonnor a.k.a. Connor Kirby-Long, a 23-year-old American DIY musician. This song might not be his best one, but you’ll get the idea. It’s quite lo-fi, using “only an old PC, a microphone from a ‘Learn Japanese’ boxset and a single low quality PC speaker”, but the result is quite magical. Enjoy, it might very well change your life..
In an attempt to share with you some of the, in my opinion, best songs around, I’ll start with ‘New Noise’ by fellow Swedes, Refused. This song is taken from the album ‘The Shape of Punk to Come’, which might be unknown to most, but is a great and highly influential album. Released in 1998, it was years ahead of its time. Enjoy, it might very well change your life..
As there are a lot of discussions going on about how to release music, the Swedish rock band Bob Hund did something pretty interesting. The first single of their new album, was released in just one ex as a dubplate (only allows for approximately 30 plays) vinyl single, with an actual record player as the ‘case’ with the lyrics and info engraved. The single was sold on eBay and ended up going for US$3650, which is the most expensive record ever sold in Sweden.
I’ve noticed that two of my favorite artists seem pretty unknown in Australia and I wanted to make you all aware of their work. Mike and Doug Starn (aka the Starn Twins) usually work with photography & mixed media on a big scale and I think it is definitely worth checking out.
Seeing it online or in a book doesn’t really do it justice, but since they got no shows or work in Australia (as far as I know), I suppose this will have to do. I won’t try to explain it more than that, but instead have a look at their site and browse some pretty amazing work.
