So I’m taking part in an exhibition this Feb, and it’s at China Heights gallery (Feb 12-14th), which is really exciting. Somewhere I’ve always wanted to see my works one day. It’s called This Little Piggy and is organised by the uber-lovely and talented Sydney artist Rebecca Murphy. 25 piggy banks meet their demise at the hands of 25 artists! We’re also showing some of our artworks alongside our piggies.

I always find it interesting to find out what inspiration lies behind graphics. It usually surprises you when you think you had the ‘gist’ of a logo or some artwork and then you find that really it was a fusion of some things that were totally different to what you get from it. It’s almost like that episode of the Simpsons where Homer sees the logo that looks suspiciously like him, but it just turns out to be a fish and a lightbulb put together, or ‘Fishbulb’.

This is a short film I was recently involved in for music and sound design. The film is a about a girl named Abigail who is dragged on a journey to discover who ‘the girl with no face’ is, and how and why she died.
I recently got commissioned to paint a mural for the band room at Mona Vale Hotel, aka The Attic. The room has a new vibe and the mural certainly brightens the place up. Coincidentally, it was also rather cool to have Tame Impala break in my artwork on it’s first night with a sold out gig. I was pretty curious to see how the crowd would react to my work – would they like it? Spill their drinks on it? MORE
As it turns out I was the next in line, standing in some other space, paying little at-tention to the no messin’ around woman behind the counter.
I stepped forward and tapped my hand on the faux marble, trying the figure out what I was supposed to be doing.
“Ah,” stammering, “I’ve come to pick up some tickets.”
She raised her eyebrow at me.
“On the guest list.” It was awkward but we worked it out. Luckily the woman behind the counter was used to dealing with people like me. She had that surly but helpful demeanor.
I walked through the milling crowd to find Ally. “Got them,” I said as she smiled and shivered, clutching her bands together and raising her shoulders to her ears. The night felt warm but cold gusts kept streaming down the street whirling up skirts and in-between legs. I clasped the tickets hard in my hand as they danced helplessly around my fingers. Wolfmother, they read in bold, Door 3, Standing. MORE
The Polaroid won’t be with us much longer so as a small gesture of appreciation for our self developing friends I decided to make a Polaroid Book to remember them by. MORE
While Jess Scully was studying Journalism and Law at the University of Technology, Sydney, she helped develop and launch STU, a monthly magazine showcasing the talents of emerging Australian creatives. She then took on the role of editor of Yen, a bi-monthly glossy title bridging the divide between art, design, style and social issues, before launching Hotpress, a monthly music magazine again placing local musicians, filmmakers in an international context.
